WHAT: More than 80 debate teams from across the country will participate in the Las Vegas Classic Debate Tournament, the first policy debate competition to be held at UNLV in more than a decade.
Policy debate is a form of speech competition in which teams of two individuals debate whether or not a specific policy action should be enacted. Teams at this weekend's tournament will debate the United States' foreign policy toward the Middle East.
WHEN: October 6-8, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
WHERE: Debate rounds will be held in the Carol Harter Building Complex (CBC) and Frank and Estella Beam Hall (BEH), both located on the UNLV campus.
NOTE: The tournament marks the first local competition for UNLV's new debate team, which was eliminated in the late 1990s because of budget cuts. The program was re-established this fall thanks to a generous donation from local philanthropist Sanford I. Berman.
