WHO: The Rev. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, noted author, professor and social critic, will be the featured speaker as UNLV and MGM MIRAGE commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
WHEN: Monday, January 28, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Dyson is scheduled speak from 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., with reception to follow.
WHERE: Student Union Ballroom at UNLV
Located off Maryland Parkway and Harmon Avenue
DETAILS: Dyson, dubbed the "hip-hop intellectual" for his pioneering explorations of rap music and its impact on American culture, is the author of 15 books and currently serves as University Professor at Georgetown University. His critical studies of race, religion, popular culture and contemporary issues in the African-American community led to his being named to Ebony Magazine's 100 most influential black Americans.
The event is free and open to the public and will include remarks by UNLV President David B. Ashley; vice president for diversity & inclusion, Christine Clark; MGM MIRAGE vice president of corporate diversity, communications & community affairs, Debra Nelson; and musical performances.
