"Translation in Las Vegas: A New Literary Crossroads" is the title of a March 24 University Forum Lecture at UNLV.
A panel consisting of two UNLV faculty members and two UNLV graduate students will discuss the growing interest across the United States in the craft of literary translation. The panelists will present papers covering innovative approaches to teaching and learning and will also examine recent national developments in the field of translation.
The panelists include Giuseppe Natale, assistant professor of foreign languages; Douglas Unger, professor of English and director of UNLV's M.F.A. in creative writing international program; Candace Oranges, a graduate student in foreign languages; and Jenny Toups, an M.F.A. student translator. The panel will be moderated by Dick Gerdes, veteran literary translator and chair of UNLV's foreign languages department.
The lecture will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by The Jerry Kalafatis Lodge Charitable Foundation and the UNLV Foundation.
