Nevada 's 2003 state budget crisis will be the topic of a legal symposium being hosted by UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law on April 23. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first floor of Boyd Hall on the campus of UNLV.
The symposium will focus on the legal aspects of the budget crisis, including the state's constitutional provision requiring a supermajority of votes on tax legislation, and the decision of the Nevada Supreme Court in the Guinn v. Legislature case.
Symposium participants will include law professors John Eastman of Chapman University; Leo Martinez of University of California, Hastings; William Popkin of Indiana University; and Sylvia Lazos, Jeffrey Stempel, and Steve Johnson of UNLV.
