This morning, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman officially proclaimed Friday, October 16, 2009, as "Rebel Red Day" in Las Vegas. The mayor called on all Southern Nevada residents and businesses to join him in sporting a Rebel Red wardrobe on Friday and Saturday as part of UNLV's homecoming festivities, which include the annual homecoming parade and football game. The Rebels will take on University of Utah on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium. Over 85,000 people have graduated from UNLV since classes were first held September 10, 1957. Mayor Goodman proclaimed the first Rebel Red Day in March 2007 when the UNLV men's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. The community's support and spirit helped establish Rebel Red Day as a homecoming tradition later that year. For a list of UNLV homecoming events, please visit .
