CNN journalist Wolf Blitzer will speak at UNLV on April 6 as part of the Barbara Greenspun Lecture Series.
His presentation, "The White House and the Press," will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. The event is free, but tickets are required. Tickets may be picked up at the Performing Arts Center box office at Ham Concert Hall beginning March 25.
Blitzer, who has been with CNN since 1990, now serves as anchor of its new flagship hard-news broadcast, "The World News Today."
He is perhaps best known as the network's senior White House correspondent and the host of"Inside Politics Weekend." He has covered President Clinton since Clinton's election in 1992.
In 1994, "American Journalism Review" cited him and CNN as the overwhelming choice of the journal's readers for the Best in the Business Award for the "best network coverage of the Clinton administration." In 1996, Blitzer won an Emmy for his coverage of the Oklahoma City bombing.
He served as the network's military affairs correspondent at the Pentagon from 1990 until 1992 and was among the team of CNN reporters who won the Golden Cable ACE award from the National Academy of Cable Programming for their coverage of the Gulf War.
Before joining CNN, Blitzer spent many years reporting from the nation's capital, including a stint as the Washington correspondent for "The Jerusalem Post."
Over the years he has covered breaking stories around the world, particularly in the Middle East. In 1977, he was in Egypt to cover the first Israeli-Egyptian peace conference. He accompanied President Carter to Egypt and Israel during the final round of negotiations that resulted in the signing of the peace treaty.
Blitzer is the author of two books, "Between Washington and Jerusalem: A Reporter's Notebook" and "Territory of Lies."
The Barbara Greenspun Lecture Series is sponsored by UNLV's Hank Greenspun School of Communication in honor of Las Vegas Sun publisher Barbara Greenspun. The school is named in honor of her late husband, Sun founder Hank Greenspun.
