The 2004 Alex G. and Faye Spanos Distinguished Teaching Award was presented recently to David Hames, associate professor of management in UNLV's College of Business. The Spanos Award is awarded annually to an outstanding faculty member and carries with it a one-time stipend of $2,000.
A member of the UNLV faculty since 1989, Hames specializes in human resource management, international business, conflict management and resolution, and organizational behavior. In addition to teaching, he has published numerous articles in scholarly journals and has recently coauthored a book with a former student about conflict management. In 2001, Hames was awarded a UNLV Distinguished Teacher Award and the College of Business Teacher of the Year Award. He has also been selected as the department of management's teacher of the year on four different occasions.
Hames earned a master's degree from the School of Labor and Industrial Relations at Michigan State University and a Ph.D. from the School of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina , Chapel Hill.
