At UNLV, the road to academic success stretches beyond the classroom. As a new generation of students prepare to join returning Rebels Aug. 29 for UNLV’s fall semester, the university has a series of events planned to promote campus pride and get students up to speed on college life and campus traditions.
From the inspirational TED-like talks of UNLV Creates and the 21st Annual Premier UNLV, to the home football opener, campus club fair and more, this year’s fall semester kickoff has events for everyone.

Residence Hall Move-In
When: Wednesday, Aug. 24 (freshman), 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Dayton Community, South Complex, Upper Class Complex and Tonopah Community
More than 1,800 new and returning students will move into campus residence halls.

Rebel Welcome Day/UNLV Creates
When: Friday, Aug. 26 Welcome Day 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; UNLV Creates, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Where: Thomas & Mack Center
Rebel Welcome Day kick starts students’ college careers with live music, bookstore discounts and giveaways, an outdoor movie, a scavenger hunt, informational booths, a barbecue and more designed to help them learn more about campus and its programs. The capstone activity is UNLV Creates, a TED- like event featuring motivational messages from UNLV staff and students. Freshmen at the mid-morning event also receive Rebel Cords and make a pledge to graduate.

UNLV Fall Semester Begins
When: Monday, Aug. 29
Throughout the day, more than 200 UNLV staff and student volunteers will run “ask me” booths to answer student questions. The booths will be located in outdoor areas throughout campus, including the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, Pida Plaza, Student Union and Lied Library.
21st Annual Premier UNLV
When: Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 5 to 9 p.m.
Where: UNLV Intramural Field
Premier is one of the largest and longest-running annual traditions at UNLV, featuring food, fireworks and the formation of a giant illuminated “UNLV” created by hundreds of UNLV students with flashlights. This year, organizers are attempting to break a World Record for the most LED lights lit simultaneously during the letter formation.

UNLV Rebel Football Home Opener vs. Jackson State Tigers

UNLV State of the University Speech
When: Thursday, Sept. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
Where: Judy Bayley Theatre
UNLV President Len Jessup delivers his second State of the University address, where he’ll give an update on the university and its vision for 2016 and beyond.
