Women Against Violence (WAV), a UNLV student group whose goal it is to end violence towards women through activism and education, will present a benefit production of Eve Ensler's "Vagina Monologues" on March 18 at 7 p.m. in the Artemus Ham Concert Hall at UNLV.
The benefit is part of the V-Day College Campaign, which invites members of university communities throughout the world to present benefit productions of the famous performance on or around V-Day, Feb. 14. The goal of the campaign is to raise money and awareness of violence against women and girls.
Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Rape Crisis Center of Southern Nevada, a non-profit organization serving Las Vegans for 30 years, and the V-Day's mission in Iraq.
Last year's event raised more than $10,000 for local and global charities. The sponsors of this year's event, the Jean Nidetch Women's Center and the Women's Studies Department at UNLV, hope to raise even more money this year.
Tickets can be purchased at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office, by phone at 895-2787, or online at . Tickets are $12 for the general public and $5 for UNLV students and faculty.
