"After the Discovery: Lewis and Clark and the Fate of the Western Indians" will be the topic of the next University Forum lecture, set for April 20.
Stephen Aaron, a UCLA history professor, will focus on the post-exploration careers of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and how the co-captains of the Corps of Discovery tried to preserve peaceful relations with the Indians.
Aaron will examine why Lewis and Clark's efforts failed and what that failure meant to them and the Indian people of the western U.S.
On April 27, Thomas Cinque, a professor emeritus with the University of Nevada School of Medicine, will discuss "Medical Ethics: A Historical Perspective."
In his lecture, Cinque will examine the origins of some of the main principles of medical ethics and how they come into conflict in the context of contemporary health care. He will also discuss the benefits of more societal discussion on these issues.
Both lectures begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by the UNLV Foundation. For more information on the series, call 895-3401.
