"Monumental Caves of India: Ajanta and Ellora" will be the first topic of the Fall 2003 University Forum lecture series at UNLV. The lecture will be held Sept. 3.
In this slide-illustrated presentation, UNLV math professor Satish Bhatnagar will examine how the design and layout of the 1,500 year-old caves have changed during various religious periods and economic conditions. The carvings and sculptures inside the caves are considered to be among the earliest examples of classical Indian art.
The lecture will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and is underwritten by The Jerry Kalafatis Lodge Charitable Foundation and the UNLV Foundation.
