Sam Connally of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington has been named associate vice president for human resources and affirmative action at UNLV, announced Juanita Fain, vice president for administration. He will begin his duties at UNLV on Sept. 15.
"We are very pleased to have Connally join our administrative team," Fain said. "His role here will be vital to efficiently managing UNLV's growth while maintaining positive employee relations. Of particular note is Sam's expertise in affirmative action compliance. We also are impressed with his dedication to providing excellent service with a focus on exceeding the expectations of both employees and administrators."
Since 1986, Connally has served in various positions at UNC Wilmington. He has been the assistant to the chancellor and director of human resources since 1994. Under his leadership, the university's HR department received the 2001 Award for Excellence in Human Resources Administration from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources.
"I am very excited about this opportunity and am looking forward to joining the administrative team at UNLV," Connally said. "I believe the HR staff is poised and ready to move forward. It will be an honor and pleasure to join them as we work together to support UNLV's educational, research, and public service mission."
From 1980 to 1986, Connally worked at North Carolina State University at Raleigh. He also served as a chaplain in the U.S. Army for four years. He holds a bachelor's degree from Principia College, a master of divinity degree from Boston University, and an MBA from Duke University.
