Radio station KUNV 91.5 FM recently announced the addition of a new civic-oriented talk show to its weekend schedule of programming.
"Our Metropolis," a weekly, half-hour interview program hosted by UNLV history professor and author Hal Rothman, focuses on current issues affecting the Las Vegas valley. During the program, which can be heard Sunday mornings from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m., Rothman conducts in-depth, one-on-one interviews with prominent local leaders about topics ranging from the valley's water shortage and growth issues to education and the media.
Upcoming guests on the program will include Pat Mulroy, general manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority; Thom Reilly, Clark County manager; Carol C. Harter, UNLV president; John Ralston, Las Vegas Sun columnist and host of the "Ralston Report"; and Thomas Mitchell, editor of the Las Vegas Review Journal.
Rothman is the author of several books about Las Vegas and the West, including the widely acclaimed " Neon Metropolis: How Las Vegas Started the 21st Century," and "Devil's Bargains: Tourism in the Twentieth Century American West." In 2002, he co-edited an anthology called "Grit Beneath the Glitter: Tales from the Real Las Vegas." In addition to writing for the Los Angeles Times, the High Country News, and Urban Ecology, Rothman is frequently quoted in national media outlets, such as the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, US News and World Report, and others.
