The Child School Refusal and Anxiety Disorders Clinic at UNLV is available to help children ages 5 through 15 who have difficulty attending school or remaining in class for an entire day.
According to Christopher Kearney, director of the clinic and associate professor of clinical child psychology, these difficulties can be the result of specific fears, general anxiety, social anxiety, separation problems, attention-seeking problems, or family problems.
The clinic provides assessment and treatment. The assessment procedure consists of interviews and questionnaires and usually lasts from one to two hours. Treatment options will be discussed after an initial evaluation of all information.
Fees are based on each family's ability to pay. Clinic services are available from September through the end of December.
