The Las Vegas 51s minor league baseball team and the UNLV Center for Academic Enrichment and Outreach (CAEO) are co-sponsoring "CAEO Night with the Las Vegas 51s" on Aug. 29 when the 51s meet the Sacramento RiverCats at Cashman Field. Game time is 7:10 p.m. A host of CAEO students, parents, and staff will be in attendance.
Special activities will take place before, during, and after the game to highlight CAEO students, staff, and programs; and announcements will be made at intervals during the game to recognize outstanding CAEO students.
According to CAEO Executive Director Tracy Cotton, students in attendance will each receive a free bag of school supplies and personal care items. "We deem it a privilege to complement a fun outing like this by giving students something to enhance their education throughout the coming school year," he said.
This is the second annual CAEO Night with the 51s. "What a winning combination," said Cotton. "The 51s inspire baseball fans, while CAEO inspires students and motivates them to higher academic success!"
CAEO is a branch of UNLV that provides traditional and alternative educational opportunities to the community through advising, counseling, assistance with admissions and financial aid applications, career planning, placement testing, and tutoring assistance. There are a dozen programs under the CAEO umbrella, including GEAR UP and Upward Bound, from middle-level education through college and post-doctoral programs. CAEO also provides assistance to displaced workers.
