Join the School of Music and Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art 5:30-7 p.m. Dec. 1 for an evening of live music featuring contemporary works for guitar paired with artworks from the . The display will include works from the Museum's current exhibitions, , , and . UNLV School of Music student composers Kevin Cervantes, Francyl Gawryn, and Tasos Peltekis will present new compositions paired with the artwork of their choice. In addition, guitarists Kyle Khembunjong, Michael Morgan, Tasos Peltekis, and Parsa Sabet, will showcase the technical possibilities of the guitar by playing other contemporary pieces inspired by the artwork. Other performers featured on the program are Jeayoung Jo (cello), Lucas Martins (violin), Won Na (violin), and Lauren Zwonik (flute).

Meet The Artists
- Composer Francyl Gawryn is a native of Southern California and moved to the Las Vegas area in 2006. She is currently Associate Pastor and Director of Music at Grace Community Church in Boulder City. She began composing poetry and music as a teen and began performing her songs at that time. She worked with Hummie Mann at the Pacific Northwest Film Score Program from 2000 to 2007 scoring music for three student films and received a Nell Shipman award for Excellence in Film Scoring from Women in Film in Seattle. She is married to Marvin Gawryn and they have two daughters and two grandchildren.
- Cellist Jeayoung Jo is a versatile musician whose passion and spirit for music shows in his performances. He has been studying music as a soloist, chamber and orchestra performance. A graduate of the National University of Mokpo in South Korea, Jeayoung earned a bachelor's in cello performance and Music Education. He has been awarded several superior ratings at both solo and ensemble levels. As a young aspiring musician in Korea, Jeayoung also performed various genres within traditional Korean music. He continues his study of the cello under Andrew Smith, a professor of music at UNLV and Principal Cellist of the Las Vegas Philharmonic. Jeayoung is currently performing with the University of Nevada Las Vegas graduate string quartet, working with Charis Ensemble, performing in many orchestras in Las Vegas.
- Las Vegas-based classical guitarist Kyle Khembunjong (b. 2000) is a nationally recognized musician, with featured performances and acknowledgments ranging from various highly-esteemed foundations, organizations, and competitions across the United States. Khembunjong graduated high school with an Associate of Arts degree at the College of Southern Nevada High School Dual-Enrollment program and is a recipient of the UNLV College of Fine Arts Music Scholarship. In the fall of 2017, Kyle began his advanced guitar studies under the guidance of world-renowned guitarist Ricardo Cobo. Khembunjong is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance at the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³». Kyle has received several first prize competition awards from the University of Denver Guitar Festival & Competition, the Orange County Guitar Circle International Youth Competition, the Appalachian GuitarFest Competition, the Rotary Club Dan Stover Music Scholarship Regional Competition, and the Las Vegas Young Artist Orchestra Susan D. Barton Music Competition.
- Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Lucas Martins is a DMA candidate and graduate assistant at the University of Nevada Las Vegas under Weiwei Le and Ambroise Aubrun. He holds a Bachelor in Music from the University of Sao Paulo and a Master of Music from the University of Tennessee where he worked under Dr. Miroslav Hristov as a graduate teaching assistant. Lucas Martins is dedicated to sharing his Brazilian musical heritage; he co-produced two CDs in 2014 and 2016 respectively featuring chamber and solo works by South American composers.
- Tasos Peltekis is a Greek-born guitarist, composer and educator. He started with music really early in his childhood days and at the age of 9 guitar became his passion. He has performed in many countries such as USA, Greece, Germany, Cyprus and Turkey. Based out of Las Vegas, he has appeared in some of the biggest venues in the U.S., including the T-Mobile Arena, Smith Center and the MGM Garden Arena. He has composed music for various recording artists, theatrical plays and documentaries. Some of the world class artists he has performed with include Cayetano, Human Nature, Debbie Gibson, Joey McIntyre, Maluma, Stamatis Kraounakis, Antonis Remos. He has studied under eminent guitar soloists and professors such as Ricardo Cobo and Oz Noy.
- Parsa Sabet is a classical guitarist, originally from Iran. Sabet, a student of guitar professor Ricardo Cobo, is a senior student in UNLV's School of Music and has presented concerts and participated in competitions around the country.
- Michael Morgan has performed and taught guitar for over 10 years. He holds degrees in music education, classics, and guitar performance from Florida State University and University of Nevada Las Vegas. Currently based in Las Vegas, the Floridian guitarist has taught at both the elementary, secondary and college level and is currently the Director of Guitar at James Cashman Middle School.
- Hailing from Colchester, Vermont, Lauren Zwonik-Stutz is pursuing a DMA of Flute Performance at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, working with Dr. John McMurtery. She earned her BM in Music Education, Flute Performance and a minor in Music Business at the Crane School of Music in New York, and her MM in Flute Performance with a Certificate in University Teaching at West Virginia University. Lauren has been a distinguished clinician, soloist, and mentor in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Switzerland and Jamaica. She enjoys her budding career through the lens of an educator, performer, and arts administrator.

The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art is located in the heart of the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» campus. The museum is easily accessed from the west side of campus at the intersection of Harmon Avenue and University Center Drive. Drive east on East Harmon Ave until the road enters the campus and terminates in a parking lot. The Museum will be on your right, next to a desert landscape garden.
