The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art is thrilled to announce three new exhibitions. Opening with a celebratory reception from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 19, 2024, these exhibitions will place Las Vegas artists in conversation with their national peers as they investigate contemporary ideas about motherhood, design, and Latin American art history.
The exhibitions will showcase a wealth of mediums to explore, from tender figure drawing and Pop portrait painting to innovative video works and a walk-in installation of consummate cake-frosting pinkness. In Relation features unconventional, and sometimes funny, visualizations of motherhood, while P0RTAL energizes the Barrick’s Window Gallery with cutting-edge graphic design, and Contemporary Ex-votos: Devotion Beyond Medium brings together Latinx artists from around North America in a brilliant and moving curation by Emmanuel Ortega (Marilynn Thoma Scholar and assistant professor in art of the Spanish Americas at the University of Illinois at Chicago).
Highlights include Lolita Develay’s reimagining of Gustave Courbet’s infamous 1866 masterpiece, L'Origine du monde; Justin Favela’s inimitable giant sculptures reflecting the changing faces of Las Vegas shopping malls; and a collaboration between New York-based artist Guadalupe Maravilla and Daniel Vilchis of Mexico City, a fourth-generation practitioner of the traditional art of ex-voto painting.

Our collection of artworks offers an opportunity for everyone to develop a deeper knowledge of contemporary art in Southern Nevada. The Barrick Museum is part of the College of Fine Arts at UNLV.

The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art is located in the heart of the UNLV campus. The museum is easily accessed from the west side of campus at the intersection of Harmon Avenue and University Center Drive. Drive east on East Harmon Avenue until the road enters the campus and terminates in a parking lot. The museum will be on your right, next to a desert landscape garden. Directions here.
