Ricardo Cobo, one of the world's supreme virtuosi of the new classic guitar generation, performs as part of the UNLV Performing Arts Center season at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in the Doc Rando Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center. Celebrated worldwide for his passionate and mesmerizing performances, he is in high demand as a soloist, lecturer, and recording artist.
Cobo debuted professionally at age 17 with the Orquesta Filarmonica de Bogota (Colombia), and was the first Hispanic to win consecutive prizes at the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition. He returns with special guests to perform Tangos y Sones Cubanos. Sones cubanos originated in Cuba in the 1920s, and tangos are the music from the popular dance.
Tickets to Ricardo Cobo are $45 and can be purchased online or by calling at the Performing Arts Center box office at 702-895-ARTS (2787). Student rush tickets are $10 each and available one hour prior to each event with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. The UNLV Performing Arts Center is Southern Nevada's first home for the arts: it opened in 1976 and celebrates its 42nd season this year. It hosts a variety of performances and events and is home to productions presented by the Nevada Conservatory Theatre, UNLV School of Music, UNLV Dance, Desert Chorale, and the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society. The UNLV PAC also is pleased to host various Clark County School District fine arts festivals and concerts.
