UNLV is accepting applications from people interested in enrolling in its new master of science program in physical therapy.
The program, which is scheduled to begin offering classes in fall semester 1998, is currently in the process of applying for accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association. If accredited, it will be the first physical therapy program in the state, said program director Harvey Wallmann.
The application deadline for prospective students is Jan. 15.
"We already know that there is a tremendous demand in Nevada -- and in Southern Nevada in particular -- for this program," Wallmann said. ."We don't anticipate having any trouble filling the 20 student slots we have available with highly qualified applicants.
"The creation of this program has been a real community effort and would not have been possible without the support and input of physical therapists and other members of the Southern Nevada medical community," he said.
Twenty students will be admitted annually to the 30-month program, Wallmann said.
