William (Bill) Werner
Biography
Bill Werner is an associate professor in the William F. Harrah College of Hospitality. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in hospitality law, employment law, labor relations, hotel security, and risk management. He is frequently cited as an expert in hospitality labor relations.
Werner's research interests are in the areas of employment dispute resolution, liability law, student rights, and labor-management relations. His research has been published in a variety of reputable journals, including the Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly and the Florida International University Hospitality Review. Werner has contributed chapters to several hospitality management texts and co-edited (NASPA, 2006). He is co-author of Managing Hospitality Human Resources, 6th ed. (AHLEI, 2021).
Prior to his appointment to UNLV in 2001, he practiced law in Las Vegas for 12 years, primarily as in-house counsel for Mirage Resorts (now part of MGM Resorts International) and Boyd Gaming Corp. He maintains a limited law practice, consisting of employment law and labor relations consulting, and provides regular pro bono representation for abused and neglected children seeking adoption. He has been named to the State Bar Pro Bono Honor Roll and served two terms on the State Bar of Nevada Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
