Have you seen the yard signs and banners around campus that say “Scarlet & Gray – Give All Day” and wondered what they mean? Or, have you heard the term Rebels Give and asked yourself how does this relate to me?
Have no fear, fellow Rebel. The Annual Giving Team from the Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement has answers for you. Megan Black, director of annual giving; Arianne Yago, associate director of digital philanthropy; and Bre Flynn, annual giving development officer, break down all the details about , which takes place March 23, 2023.
Can you explain what Rebels Give is?
Megan: Sure. Have you ever heard the term “Many hands make light work”? It means that difficult things are easier when people work together. That’s what Rebels Give is all about. It’s a time for all of us to pool our donations to UNLV to make a greater impact. It’s incredible how individual donations of any size can add up. Since Rebels Give launched in 2018, over 6,000 donors have donated over $2 million to scholarships and programs across campus. Rebels Give 2023 will provide an opportunity for the whole Rebel family to celebrate and support what they love about UNLV.
What does Rebels Give support?
Arianne: What doesn’t it support? When you visit , you will see that you can elect for your donation to go to scholarships, causes, and programs all across campus. Some units will have challenges or matches that help your dollars go even further. Whether your passion is art, research, food insecurity, or athletics, you can support what you love. If UNLV has impacted your life, you can find a meaningful way to give back.
How can the UNLV community get involved?
Bre: Our slogan is "Scarlet and Gray, Give all Day," so break out your favorite Rebel gear that day. Gifts can be made online or in person at the Rebels Give events. Everyone is encouraged to post about Rebels Give on social media using the #RebelsGive hashtag and be on the lookout for social media challenges.
Arianne: You can also become a Rebels Give Ambassador. Register at and then download your toolkit. It will walk you through promoting Rebels Give to your networks.
Can you tell everyone more about the events?
Megan: There are two events, and the entire Rebel community is invited. First, there will be Rebels Give at Shadow Lane Campus on March 20, from 11 a.m. to noon. Come by our table to enjoy free food and learn about Rebels Give.
Arianne: And you don’t want to miss Rebels Give Pie on Pida on March 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The campus community is invited to celebrate Rebels Give with food, a photo booth, a DJ, and other activities. And those who donate will have the chance to throw a pie at notable Rebels. Who will be sitting in that chair when you donate? Come out and see!
Bre: During both events, donations can be made to Rebels Give. Students who make a gift through the Rebel Legacy student philanthropy initiative will receive a generosity cord to wear during commencement.
If someone doesn’t have much to donate – can they still participate?
Megan: Absolutely! Whether a small one-time contribution or a larger gift, private support is vital to funding current and future students and programs. No matter the size, every donation will make a lasting impact and help Rebels create, learn, and succeed for years.
Is there Rebels Give swag?
Arianne: Donors who make a cumulative gift of $75 or more will receive a pair of Rebels Give socks (while supplies last). Rebels Give Ambassadors will also receive a T-shirt.
