Transferring to a new school can have its hurdles, but that doesn’t mean your college experience can’t flourish. This is why UNLV offers a variety of opportunities to help the rising number of transfer students feel right at home. Just ask these students involved with the (RTSO) who stepped out of their comfort zones and discovered how to make the most out of their time as Rebels.
Why did you choose UNLV when transferring?
I chose UNLV when transferring because it is close to home. I went away to school, and during COVID-19 decided to transfer back home. I was also accepted into the Service Learning Honors program at UNLV, which made my decision easier!
How have you overcome any challenges that you encountered?
One of the biggest challenges I came into contact with was the actual process of transferring. I overcame that by having meetings with transfer advisors and applying early to make sure I could still get into good classes.
What academic successes have you celebrated recently?
Some academic successes I have encountered recently include being initiated into the honor society Phi Kappa Phi and a good score on my MCAT!
What resources can other transfer students utilize to get more involved?
I am the 2022-2023 president of the Rebel Transfer Student Organization. I would definitely recommend joining RTSO! It is a great way to get transfer advice, make new friends, and get acclimated to a new campus!
Why did you choose UNLV when transferring?
I chose UNLV when transferring because I am looking forward to giving back to the community I was born and raised in. Another perk is that it offered the imaging bachelor's degree I wanted.
How have you overcome any challenges that you encountered?
I've overcome challenges by having a support system. Going through any hardships alone is extremely difficult, so having someone or something, like the gym, to run to when feeling overwhelmed. It also helps to take things day by day to avoid having an existential crisis.
What academic successes have you celebrated recently?
The most recent academic success I've celebrated is getting accepted into the ultrasound program here at school!
What resources can other transfer students utilize to get more involved?
Resources other transfer students utilize to get involved is looking through events on the . I only recently found out that the majority of organization events are posted there along with ways to get in contact with them. Simply reaching out to an organization on ways to join also helps! If transfer students are struggling with looking for organizations to join, I recommend joining RTSO (not-so-shameless plug), to interact with other transfer students where we share resources with each other!
