UNLV's Team Las Vegas will be honored Nov. 9 by the Nevada Conservation League with the for their strides in renewable energy during the U.S. Department of Energy's international Solar Decathlon sustainable homebuilding competition. The award recognizes those dedicated to increasing access to a healthier and cleaner environment for Nevadans.
Roughly 50 UNLV students from a variety of academic backgrounds including architecture, engineering, and psychology, designed, planned, and built Mojave Bloom, a 628-square-foot home created as a place of healing and respite for military veterans suffering the adverse effects of wartime trauma. The home, which finished third overall in the Solar Decathlon contest, is now on display at the Las Vegas Healing Garden.
Calling Mojave Bloom "a unique and innovative approach in the sustainable home building arena," the Nevada Conservation League said: "The team’s representation of Nevada has pushed all of us forward in utilizing renewable resources to meet our energy needs."
