Parry (African American and African Diaspora Studies Program; Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies) was interviewed by a journalist from Charleston, South Carolina's about the remarks by Republican Governor Henry McMaster who "joked" about hunting Democrats with dogs. Parry provided context about the racist history of using bloodhounds and other dogs against Black people in the U.s. South, and why the governor's remarks drew controversy throughout the state.
