The TRIO, GEAR UP, AANAPISI (Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions), and NSF LSAMP (Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation) programs, along with elected officials, community partners, and Clark County School District (CCSD) administrators, came together with students and families in February to celebrate the achievements of program participants, both past and present. Eleven alumni of the Center for Academic Achievement and Outreach were honored for their accomplishments. The audience listened as the honorees shared their stories of how the TRIO, GEAR UP, AANAPISI, and NSF LSAMP programs positively changed their lives and futures. Among the 850 in attendance were Juanita Fain, UNLV vice president for student affairs; Linda Young CCSD trustee; Donald McMichael Sr., NSHE regent; Deanna Kowal Jaskolski, CCSD associate superintendent; and U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen of Nevada, as well as several principals from CCSD middle and high schools.
