Orlando White (Residential Life) won the “Advisor of the Year” award from the Intermountain Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (IACURH) at the association’s annual business conference held at Boise State University in Idaho earlier this month. He has served as advisor for UNLV’s Residence Hall Association (RHA) since 2012 and the Rho Epsilon Beta chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) since 2013.
The award recognizes the contributions of RHA and NRHH advisors who have helped their organizations grow in significant ways while advancing the residential life mission on their campuses. The award is voted on by student leaders from Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. He also under UNLV’s previous affiliation in the Pacific region.
As this year's regional nominee from the intermountain region, White's bid now will compete against seven other award nominees from the different geographic regions of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) at the annual conference that will take place at Arizona State University-Tempe in May.
His award bid was written by students Athina Ketchum, Lisamarie Tomassetti, and Lauren Washington. Some of the accomplishments highlighted in the bid were his work teaching in the leadership and civic engagement minor, developing UNLV’s first “Men of Color Retreat," and advising RHA's winning the national “School of the Year” award in 2017.
