Nicole Short (Psychology) was awarded a five-year Career Development award by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (-01A1; total to be awarded $787,634). This award will allow her to test the initial efficacy of and mechanisms underlying a new digital therapeutic she developed to prevent the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and cannabis use disorder (CUD) among women seeking emergency care after sexual assault. It will also support Short in receiving further training in emergency care-based clinical trials, advanced statistical analysis, biobehavioral mechanisms underlying PTSD-CUD prevention, and professional development. If successful, this digital therapeutic would be a scalable intervention to improve recovery after sexual assault and prevent the burden of suffering associated with PTSD and CUD.
