On Thursday, June 15, 2023, OUR’s Spectra Undergraduate Research Journal’s Vol. 3, Issue 1 went live with four undergraduate research articles. This issue celebrates the work of undergraduate researchers representing three academic departments: department of history, School of Life Sciences, and department of civil and environmental engineering and construction.
Spectra Undergraduate Research Journal is a bi-annual, peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary, open-access journal dedicated to the publication of undergraduate student research at UNLV. Created and managed by the office of undergraduate research and hosted through the UNLV University Libraries Digital@Scholarship, the journal is committed to advancing responsible and ethical conduct of research, academic integrity, civil discourse, open and critical inquiry, and fair and unbiased representation of undergraduate student research across the academic spectrum.
This issue features the following research articles:
- Nallely Lozoya, A Vision Without Borders: Magonismo and Mexican Women
- Cosset Hernandez Pena, Mandy Mountain, and Daniel B. Thompson, Ph.D., The Effects of Big Dune and Lava Dune Sand Composition on the Eggs and Larvae of Pseudocotalpa giulianii
- Jourdin Wilson, Shifts in French Jewish Citizenship, 1789-1840s
- Raquel Jackson, Recent Developments in Timber Design & Its Impact on Carbon Emissions
In addition, the issue showcases the cover artwork of Jeyan Lacson, a senior studying chemistry in the College of Sciences. Lacson received the Spectra Undergraduate Research Journal Fall 2022 Cover Artwork Award which intends to foster student participation in the undergraduate research publication process and to better incorporate artistic and creative works into research at UNLV. Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research, the competitive award carries a $250 monetary prize and a plaque.
All UNLV students and their mentors are encouraged to submit their research to Spectra Undergraduate Research Journal for publication.
