Dr. Moni Ahmadian (Dental) presented "An Unusually Expansile Nasopalatine Duct Cyst Mimicking a Nasolabial Cyst" as a poster during the 2022 American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology annual meeting. Nasopalatine duct cyst (NPDC) is the most common non-odontogenic developmental cyst of the jaw bone that arises in the midline anterior hard palate in association with the incisive canal. Most cases of NPDC are asymptomatic and incidental radiographic findings. This study reported a rare case of expansile NPDC that deflected from the midline and perforated through the facial alveolar bone and communicated with the nasolabial soft tissues resulting in clinical facial swelling. Such an unusual presentation may pose a diagnostic dilemma as NPDC shares similar histomorphologic features with a soft tissue developmental cyst called the nasolabial cyst, which highlights the importance of correlation of histopathologic features with clinical and radiographic findings.
