Dr. Michael Daubs, Dr. Tyler Kent, and Adnan Mohsin (all Medicine) recently had the opportunity to show off some of UNLV's leading-edge technology. Daubs, chair of the orthopedic surgery department, and second-year resident Kent demonstrated a virtual surgery device that allows students to perform arthroscopic surgery on knees, shoulders, and hips. As students manipulate the surgical instruments with their hands, they feel pressure when they hit tendons, cartilage, or bone. Their precise movements can be recorded, timed, and graded. Mohsin, surgical skills and simulation lab coordinator, set up the device that sets the UNLV School of Medicine apart.
