(UNLV Libraries) presented at the LOEX Annual Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. His talk, "Teaching Information Literacy in Untrusting Times: Prioritize Research for Knowledge (Not Just Understanding)," made a case for addressing the public's diminished trust in experts directly in library instruction. Exploring the factors that reduce trust provides an occasion for students to consider the point of library research. The goal is not to find sources to back up an irrefutable argument (an objective made unreasonable and potentially demoralizing by the contentious state of public discourse); rather, the idea is to build a more thorough and realistic understanding of a research question.
