Łukasz J. Sznajder (Chemistry and Biochemistry) participated in an international study conducted in Poland, France, and the U.S. Their research has been focused on the molecular mechanism underlying RNA alternative splicing transition from ‘fetal’ to ‘adult’ mRNA pattern in developing skeletal muscles. They identified the family of RNA helicases (DDX) and alternative splicing factors (MBNL) that are antagonists in this process and dissected three molecular mechanisms underlying their observation. Their findings contribute to a better understanding of the muscle pathology in hereditary neuromuscular disease known as myotonic dystrophy. Results have been described in an article titled, "," and published in Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences journal.
