Eshaan Vakil (Brookings Mountain West) recently was selected to present his summer internship research on "State and Local Per Pupil Funding for Higher Education in the Mountain West States" at UNLV's Summer 2019 Undergraduate Research Symposium. Vakil, a Clark High School student and Brookings summer intern, conducted research analyzing changes in governmental funding for higher education in the Mountain West states of Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. The selected years of study are the 2016-17 academic year, and a 10-year period from the 2006-07 academic year to the 2016-17 academic year. Special focus is placed on the role of the Great Recession of 2008 in affecting higher education funding decisions. He is interested in majoring in foreign affairs or public policy in college.
