Erika Engstrom (Communication Studies) made two presentations at the annual conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in Chicago in August. The first was a refereed paper titled "What Happens to the 'Cream of the Crop'?: The Representative Anecdote in AMC's Mad Men." The second was a panel presentation titled "Gender Dynamics and Journalists: Cultural Work and the Function of Functionaries," on Antonio Gramsci's theory of hegemony and its role in the press. She also is the author of four entries "Mary Ann Doane," "Stuart Hall," "Toys and Games: Gender Socialization," and "Toys and Games: Racial Stereotypes and Identity" that appear in the that recently was published by Sage.
