Dr. David Di John and Karen Gordon (both Medicine) presented at the 2024 National Ryan White Conference on HIV Care & Treatment in Washington, D.C. on August 22. Their talk, “Preparing 16-24-year-old youth living with HIV to become peer navigator/community health workers,” was given as part of a Symposium on Community Engagement and Innovation. The work was sponsored by a HRSA Part C Supplemental Capacity Building grant designed to involve people with lived experience with HIV/AIDS to engage in efforts that would help identify infected individuals and bring them into care.
Dr. Di John is a Professor of Pediatrics and the Medical Director of the UNLV Health Maternal Child Wellness Program (MCWP), which cares for women, infants, children and youth infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS in the Las Vegas transitional grant area, which includes Clark and Nye counties in southern Nevada and Mohave County in northern Arizona.
Gordon is the Program Director for the MCWP, and is the Administrative and Grants Director of the UNLV School of Medicine Office of Research. Our other collaborators and coauthors on the project included Community Health Worker, Melba Borrero, and Program Management Analyst, Cathleen Danheiser, who is also the Grant & Research Coordinator in the Office of Research.
