David Damore (Political Science), Robert Lang (Brookings Mountain West and The Lincy Institute), and Karen Danielsen (Public Policy and Leadership) published (Brookings Institution Press). The book, which includes contributions from William Brown (Brookings Mountain West) and John Hudak and Molly Reynolds of the Brookings Institution, analyzes the demographic, economic, geographic, and political divisions between blue, Democratic-leaning, million-plus metropolitan areas and the rest of their more Republican-dominated red states. In addition to considering how the 27 metros in the 13 swing states covered in the book (including Nevada) influence electoral outcomes, the authors consider how regional tensions animate intrastate political and policy conflicts.
