Dr. Ayodele Ogunlela (Medicine), a child and adolescent psychiatry fellow in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, will be presenting at the 2024 National Conference on Correctional Health Care. His presentation is titled, "Outside the Walls: Best Practices in Juvenile Reentry," and the abstract is below.
"Adolescents involved in the juvenile legal system often face challenges in accessing medical and psychiatric treatment services as they transition back into the community after a period of incarceration. Health care professionals working with youth during the re-entry process have a unique opportunity to help change patients’ trajectory by providing trauma-responsive, culturally humble, and flexible treatment programming which should be guided by the available evidence and integrated into routine program development for all juvenile correctional facilities."
