Austin Horng-En Wang (Political Science) contributes a chapter, "," to the Encyclopedia of Taiwan Studies edited by SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies at the University of London. By reviewing the history and the development of politics in Taipei City between 1600 and 2020, Wang argues that Taipei City has performed two essential functions: it has served as the global face of Taiwan and it has set the platform for debating Taiwan’s future. The tension between Chinese and Taiwanese identity was illustrated by the buildings and social movements on the street, while the election results and political development in Taipei City prelude the future agenda in the national elections.
