This article challenges the theory of mobilization, arguing that the calculation of the collective action will be salient among citizens without a strong national identity. This article provides a game theoretical model on the conditional effect of national identity on the willingness to fight, and examines the theory through a survey experiment and a representative survey in Taiwan under the context of China-Taiwan military conflict.
