Austin Horng-En Wang (Political Science) published a co-authored article "" in the journal Scientific Reports. This article compares the level of stress and the coping strategies between domestic and overseas Taiwanese people in the early outbreak (February - May 2020) of COVID-19. The result shows that the domestic Taiwanese respondents have a significantly lower level of stress compared with the overseas counterparts, and the difference is mediated by the information provided by the government. The effect holds through both regression analysis and propensity score matching. Domestic and overseas Taiwanese people also relied on very different coping strategies after controlling for other covariates.
