Ashley Schobert (Brookings Mountain West, Economics, and Political Science), a student of the Brookings public policy minor program, wrote an opinion editorial, which was published in the Las Vegas Sun. The piece offers a response to the March 7 campus event, "The Great Debate," which featured members of the UNLV debate team and visiting scholars from the Brookings Institution in a debate on the topic, "Should the U.S. Establish Single-payer Health Insurance Coverage?"
Schobert is a student double majoring in economics and political science with a Brookings public policy minor. She will graduate in May, after winning multiple national championships as a student athlete with the Rebel Girls dance program.
Brookings public policy minor students are engaged in a variety of policy topics that impact the Las Vegas metropolitan region, the Mountain West, and the nation. Through the program students complete an interdisciplinary schedule of courses, write opinion editorials on key policy topics, and conduct research related to their policy topics with the guidance of UNLV faculty and visiting scholars from the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
