Andreas Stefik (Computer Science) and his received the Computer Science Teachers Association and Code.org’s distinguished Expanding CS Opportunities Award during Computer Science Education Week. The award was given by Melinda Gates, co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and recognizes Stefik’s work on creating the Quorum programming language. Quorum is an evidence-oriented language for blind and visually impaired learners, built with accessibility as a primary design goal. He and his team are now on version six of the software. Students on the team include graduate students Timothy Rafalski, William Allee, Patrick Daleiden, and Phillip Merlin Uesbeck as well as undergraduate students Xinke Cao, Cristina Panks, Matthew Gordin, and Jack MacKey.
