Alfredo Fernandez-Gonzalez (Architecture) received the from the American Solar Energy Society, which recognizes leaders in architecture and design who have made outstanding contributions related to the use of solar, low-energy, and sustainable design strategies. This award recognizes Fernandez-Gonzalez’s experimental work on passive solar heating and cooling, the subsequent development of assessment methods for the systems he investigated, and his legacy as an educator who has inspired others to build upon his contributions to advance the field. ASES noted “this award recognizes both the timelessness of sustainable design and also a sensitivity to particular design challenges of the age.”
Since joining UNLV in 2004, Fernandez-Gonzalez has been recognized with many prestigious awards such as the Carnegie Foundation and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education 2012 Nevada Professor of the Year, the Alex G. and Faye Spanos Distinguished Teacher Award (received twice), the UNLV Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award, and the UNLV Alumni Association Outstanding Faculty Award, among several others.
