Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Internships

Each year, an average of 600 Hospitality College students expand their professional development by participating in hospitality internships throughout the US or in their home country. Internship experience can be combined with a 3-credit online course, offered each fall, spring, and summer semester.

Two internship courses are available: HMD 400 or HMD 351. To determine which course is appropriate for you (as well as your eligibility for the course), please contact the Boughner Center for Career Services at 702-895-5554 or boughnercareerservices@unlv.edu.

Available Internship Courses

  • There are two internship courses available depending on your needs/course catalog. The courses available include HMD 400 and HMD 351.
    •  HMD 400 can be counted as your culminating experience.
    • You may take HMD 351 if you want to do an internship for elective credits (does not count for culminating experience credit or as a substitution for HMD 400).

How to Apply to an Internship Course

  • HMD 400 requires an application packet that includes: a request for credit form, a liability release, CPT Acknowledgement (international students only), and a learning agreement. You may contact the Boughner Center to receive a copy of the packet for either course.
  • HMD 351 requires a similar packet to HMD 400. Please contact the Boughner Center to receive a copy of the packet.

Course Comparison (note: for each course, student internships must take place concurrently with the class)

  • HMD 400 is the culminating internship course for students.
    • HMD 400 includes a special project students will plan with their internship site.
    • This internship associated with HMD 400 must take place within a hospitality company.
  • HMD 351 is for students who would like to use an internship for an elective credit. It has similar requirements to HMD 400 and cannot be used as a substitute for a culminating experience course.

Internship Approval

  • You are encouraged to contact the Boughner Center to discuss your possible internship at any time. You do not have to wait until you are ready to apply for the course.
  • All internships must take place within a hospitality enterprise – lodging, resort, food and beverage, travel & tourism, meeting and events, gaming, hospitality tech, etc.
  • We are happy to answer any questions and guide you through the process. Internships are not officially approved until you have been given permission to enroll in an internship course. Please contact the Boughner Center with questions about your internship.
