Description

A Wail and a Clang

Contemporary Drawing and Painting

Curated by Jeff Burden

The gallery presents a selection of drawings and paintings by eleven artists hailing from the U.S. and Canada. The artists participating in the exhibition are Samira Abbassy, Mike Cockrill, Michael Gellatly, Salomon Huerta, Darina Karpov, Candice Lin, Zachari Logan, Walter Robinson, Scot Thompson, Betty Tompkins, and Jim Torok.

Their work offers observations on a range of topics from pulp fiction and sex to collage, academic drawing, illustration, drawing’s relationship to sculpture, brutality, aggression, cultural and feminine issues.  Some of the

paintings focus on the act of drawing, while some of the drawings allude to the process of painting.  Similarly, some of the works are detailed and time-consuming with others having a more spontaneous, expressive slant to

them.  In all, the work in this exhibition has a persuasiveness of style and technique.  The exhibition was funded in part by the Robert M. MacNamara Foundation.

Gallery hours: Mon.-Fri., 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Sat., 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.
