Description

The Donna Beam Gallery presents “¡Գ!,” an introduction to an emerging Latin art community in Las Vegas. Curated through the Donna Beam Gallery, “¡Գ!,” assembles a lively group of artists whose artwork runs the gamut of uinspirational sources and cultural commentary with varied media, from painters, to sculptors, photographers, illustrators, cartoonists and installation artists. “¡Գ!” has UNLV introducing the depth and diversity of contemporary works produced by artists of Latino/a/x heritage who call Las Vegas home.

“There is a wonderfully productive and expressive body of Latinx artists in this community,” notes Jerry Schefcik, UNLV Director of Galleries and exhibition curator. “This exhibition only scratches the surface of the range of work being generated.”

Marcus Civin, UNLV’s new chair for the College of Fine Arts’ Department of Art says, "My life has been unfathomably enriched by my interactions with diverse artists and designers. My ardent hope is that UNLV can provide the same kind of inspiration I have experienced for our diverse and courageous student body and the fascinating community of Las Vegas.”

The artists include Omayra Amador, Yasmina Chavez, Natalie Delgado, Lolita Develay, Justin Favela, Ed Fuentes, J. Antonio Gomez-Morales, Adolfo Gonzalez, Karla Lagunas, Danny Martinez, Orlando Montenegro-Cruz, Raymond “StingRay” Pratt, Krystal Ramirez, Fernando Reyes, Miguel Rodriguez, Checko Salgado, Javier Sanchez, Sunday Slackers, Luis Varela-Rico, Jess Vanessa and David Velix.

¡Գ! is organized by Jerry Schefcik and co-curated by Checko Salgado and Ed Fuentes.

The Donna Beam Gallery encourages the understanding, appreciation and making of visual art through exhibitions and accompanying programs for the university community, residents of southern Nevada and visitors to the city alike.
