PALS Peer Mentoring for First-Year Students
Our P.A.L.S. Peer Mentoring Program assists first-year students with their transition to college life by connecting them with a current College of Education student who meets with them regularly to give advice and social support. Students who participate in the program have greater rates of success and are more likely to finish their degree on time. They also develop great leadership and teambuilding skills.
Alumni Mentorship Program for Third- & Fourth-Year Students
Our alumni network, which consist of more than 23,000 educators, researchers, and human service professionals around the world, is eager to share their experiences to support students nearing the end of their academic journey (having completed at least 60 credits) and beginning their careers. .
Amplifying Black Voices Critical Mentorship Program
The supports the college’s Black students with a safe, affirming, and free space to thrive academically, personally, and professionally. Students select a practicing, licensed educator who aligns with their individual goals, interests, and aspirations. These mentors will guide students throughout their academic journey, providing valuable insights, advice, and resources. Holmes Scholars Program
Our American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) Holmes Scholars Program supports students who self-identify as racially and ethnically diverse and are pursuing graduate degrees in education. Holmes Scholars aspire to academic careers and receive mentorship, financial support, professional development, and networking opportunities.
Field Experiences & Placement
Most of our undergraduate and graduate students are required to complete multiple semesters of in-classroom training, including practicum, pre-student teaching, and student teaching via our Field Experiences & Placement program. These experiences pair the student with a seasoned teacher or human services professional in a cooperative mentoring relationship to provide ongoing feedback and encouragement.
Please note that eligible students must apply for field placement courses by October 10 for the following spring semester and by March 10 for the following fall semester. Field experience courses are not available during summer term. Please contact the Education Student Services Center to discuss the application process.
