The Earth and Environmental Science Minor is tailored for students outside the College of Sciences. It provides a good background in the topics likely to be covered in an earth science teaching position in Clark County and other areas as well as a solid background to appreciate the natural landscapes and resources in Southern Nevada and the world.  The minor consists of 23 credits of geology and geography classes.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this minor, students will have a broad understanding of the topical area of Earth and Environmental Sciences and will be able to apply their understanding of the earth and its geologic and environmental processes to relevant topics of interest within their declared major, including those seeking to teach earth science classes.

Department of Geoscience

Geoscience is an all-encompassing term used to refer to the earth sciences. The Department of Geosciences offers programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels where students can learn about topics such as earth processes; the origin and evolution of our planet; the chemical and physical properties of minerals, rocks, and fluids; the structure of our mobile crust; the history of life; and the human adaptation to earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, and floods.
