The Women's Council has voted to rename the GIVE Award effective immediately. It will be replaced with the Carol C. Harter GIVE Award, honoring Carol Harter for her outstanding contributions to women in higher learning.
The GIVE Award (Growth, Inclusivity, Voice, and Excellence Award), which had been presented annually since 2020. This award has been created by the Women's Council in partnership with the Office of Diversity Initiatives to recognize those working toward an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive campus environment for UNLV students, faculty, staff, and community members. It recognizes and encourages diversity initiatives in areas of programming, outreach, and other areas by faculty, staff, individual students and student organizations. The award aims to create a space for people and programs that would otherwise not be recognized and encourage diversity initiatives in all levels of UNLV's campus.
The Carol C. Harter GIVE Award retains the previous criteria that showcases individuals who have demonstrated achievements in Diversity and Inclusivity on Campus.
The award in honor of its namesake, Carol C Harter, who served as UNLV President from 1995-2006, was a promoter of gender equality on campus and in the community, supported the creation of the Women’s Research Institute of Nevada.
The first Carol C. Harter GIVE Award will be presented in spring 2024.
