We are interested in meeting with faculty and students with demonstrated interest in racial equity and social justice but welcome others with nascent or related interests. Please also attend if you are interested in exploring work that might fit within this iRDA. Examples of research that fits into the Racial Equity and Social Justice Interdisciplinary Research Development Area include:
- Educational Inequities and Educational Racism
- Healthcare Inequities and Medical Racism
- Policing, Policing Reform, and the Carceral State
- Housing Insecurity
- Food Insecurity
- Indigeneity
- Issues Related to Social Welfare
- Voting, Representation, and Government
This list is not exhaustive and we will welcome additional topics during the meet-and-greet.
This event is open to all UNLV faculty.
What to Expect and Future Plans
Attendees should prepare to speak for three-to-five minutes about their research interests in racial equity and social justice. We will document each participants’ interests and create subgroups of researchers through a collaborative process. Our goal is to develop between three and five subgroups with foci on particular research areas. We will organize subsequent meetings of subgroups ahead of a larger two-day writing retreat that is intended to support the development applications for external funding.
